The perfect place to kick off your shoot. MG Marg’s pedestrian boulevard is ideal for candid walking shots, while the evening fairy lights create beautiful silhouette frames against a warm glow. Yumthang Valley
Known as the Valley of Flowers, Yumthang blankets itself in blooming rhododendrons every spring, often with lingering snow patches well into April. The 150 km, 6–7 hour drive from Gangtok makes this a full-day commitment, so plan accordingly. Once there, you’ll get everything from sweeping wide-angle flower-field shots to intimate close-up frames — accessible only through a registered Sikkim tour operator.

Tsomgo (Changu) Lake
A dramatic combination of turquoise water and snow-capped peaks, Tsomgo Lake transforms with the seasons — frozen and stark in winter, glassy and reflective in summer. Just 40 km from Gangtok (about a 2-hour SUV ride), it adds a touch of adventure to your couple’s journey. Pack warm layers, since thin air at altitude can make hair and makeup harder to maintain.

Gurudongmar Lake
For couples chasing something truly surreal, Gurudongmar Lake delivers an almost otherworldly, spiritual backdrop that can easily become the standout shot of your entire album. This one is for well-prepared shoots only: it requires a 2-day acclimatization stop in Lachen, and shooting is limited to a strict 7–10 AM window before mountain weather turns.

Pelling
Catch direct sunrise views of Kanchenjunga from the Pelling Skywalk for cinematic, golden-hour silhouette shots. Pair that with heritage-style frames at the Pemayangtse and Sanga Choling monasteries, and you get a single trip that covers both modern and traditional aesthetics — perfect if your couple wants variety in their final album.

Ravangla & Buddha Park
Home to a giant Buddha statue set against an open Himalayan panorama, Ravangla offers a peaceful, serene backdrop that feels both spiritual and grand. Wide-angle drone shots and symmetrical couple poses in front of the statue both work beautifully here. With easy access and a calmer crowd, it makes for a relaxed, low-stress shoot day to round off your Sikkim itinerary.

Permits & Paperwork
Sikkim has stricter permit rules than most Indian states. Foreign nationals need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter Sikkim, while Indian nationals require permits for protected areas like Nathula Pass and North Sikkim. Carry valid ID and passport-size photos, and always check the official Sikkim Tourism portal for the latest permit guidelines before your trip. Apply for permits a few days in advance to avoid delays. Keep both digital and printed copies of your documents handy during your journey.
Hire local, or bring your own?
A local Sikkim photographer usually saves more than they cost — they handle permits, know legal shoot spots, and are already acclimatized for 12,000 ft-plus locations.

Tips for a smooth shoot day

Acclimatize first
Spend 1–2 nights in Gangtok or Lachen before shooting above 12,000 ft to reduce altitude sickness risk. -

Carry thermals, gloves and a windproof shell even in May. Tsomgo can drop below freezing at sunrise. -
Plan a backup
Keep a low-altitude fallback — Ranka Monastery, Ravangla, Temi Tea Garden — for weather or road closures.
