Pamplemousses Botanical Garden

Located in the Pamplemousses district near Port Louis, the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, commonly known as the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, is one of Mauritius’s most visited attractions. Established during the French colonial period, the garden spans approximately 37.5 hectares and boasts a rich diversity of around 500 plant species.

Visitors are particularly captivated by the garden’s iconic giant water lilies, whose expansive leaves can reach impressive sizes. The garden also features the rare Talipot Palm, known for flowering once in its lifetime, typically after several decades.

The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden offers a serene environment for leisurely walks amidst its diverse flora. Guided tours are available, providing insights into the garden’s history and plant collections. The garden is open daily, with an entrance fee of Rs 300 for non-residents aged 5 and above. For residents with a permit, the fee is Rs 25, and children under 5 enter free. Notably, entrance is free for Mauritians on Sundays and public holidays.

A visit to the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden offers a tranquil escape into nature, making it a must-see destination for those seeking to explore Mauritius’s botanical heritage
