Rudraprayag is named after Lord Shiva who is also known as Rudra. According to folklore, it is said that to master the mysteries of music, Narad Muni prayed to Lord Shiva, who appeared in his Rudra avtar to bless Narad Muni. Rudraprayag is situated at the holy confluence ofthe Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers. The meeting of the two rivers has anexclusive beauty of its own and it appears as if two sisters are embracing each other. Rudraprayag is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of the river Alaknanda, the other four confluences beingDevprayag, Nandprayag, Karnaprayag and Vishnuprayag.
