Landour is situated about 1,500 feet above Mussoorie and has the altitude of 7,000 feet. The summers are quite comfortable in daytime but the nights are slightly cold. In the monsoons the day temperature dips a bit and nights much are chillier. And as far as winters are concerned, the days are cold and nights are almost freezing. Snowfall is what everyone awaits here for and enjoy to their fullest.
Summers
April to June mark the summer months in Landour. The day temperature rises around 30 degrees but the nights are quite cold around 10. This is the best period for sightseeing and simply roaming around. The blooming flowers make for an attractive location and the shutterbugs click pictures to their heart. Cotton clothes are good in the day and some protective clothes for the night are recommended.
Monsoons
The monsoon attracts the heaviest of rainfall and it almost rains daily without fail. This rainy season extends from July to September. Whenever sun shines after a shower, the gleaming green leaves dazzle and make attractive scenery. If looking to roam outside make sure you have raincoats. The rain often pushes the mercury down making the nights chillier. Cottons for the day and some light woolen for the nights is the norm here in Landour.
Winters
The winter season sets in October and stays till February end. Landour gets a decent amount of snowfall and it is one of the locations that get maximum snowfall comparatively in the entire Uttarakhand. When the snow melts the cold wave is sharp enough to chill your spine. Heavy woolens are recommended for this season. Whenever visiting Landour in winters, make sure you have a few days extra as rain & snowfall sometimes blocks roads
There are local cobblers’ outlets where famous personalities flock to order custom-made leather shoes and sandals with fabulous designs. Don’t be surprised if you hear that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also visit this market for premium quality shoes when he is in the town. Not only shoes, you can also shop for snuggly woollens, exquisite antiques and delicate ceramic crockery at Landour Bazaar. If you want a quick bite in between your shopping spree, there are several eateries where you can enjoy snacks and coffee/tea. Some other attractions of Landour Bazaar are Mullingar Estate (abode of Captain Young who is known to discover Mussoorie), Woodstock School, Char Dukan (a cluster of local shops) and St Paul’s Church.
