Generally, summer season is the best time to visit Chaukori, i.e. April to June when weather is the most pleasant and ideal for all outdoor activities. Monsoon season literally pours here and accessing any spot is utmost difficult. But daredevils and honeymooners like to smell the mist, low clouds and keep visiting the place throughout the year.
Winters are chilly and temperature slips to around 2 degrees. With warm clothes visiting Chaukori is not a major problem.
The weather in general is sub-tropical in Chaukori and it experiences three distinct seasons’ viz., summers, monsoons and winters. Summers are moderate and winters quite cold. The former is recommended for tourism as the monsoon season experiences heavy rainfall. Summers and monsoon seasons just make it harder to handle travelling on the steep terrain.
Winters in Chaukori are the also the best time to visit because the skies are clearer then, and the views are majestic. Again, winters are a more satiating experience because of the cool winds and the softer hued sunrise and sunsets bringing the sense of warmth. All in all it could be said that Chaukori is a year round destination for many.
Summers
Moderately warm summers from April to July are experienced with max temperature around 25 degrees. Minimum temperatures seldom dip below 17 and it is a good time to visit the place. The pleasant weather will be good for sightseeing. Some light woolens should be carried along with as nights sometime get unusually cold.
Monsoons
The monsoons see some of the heaviest rainfall in the entire region from July to September. For many, this timeframe is not the best suitable for touring the region as it also gets a bit slippery. Landslides, flash floods cannot be ruled out and risking the lives is never recommended. Couples who enjoy misty environs and ready to take the risk do arrive here in hordes and smell the romantic mist. Even for photographers, this is an ideal time for clicking some unbelievable pictures.
Winters
Chaukori experiences a chilly winter where maximum temperature stays around 10 degrees whereas the minimum around 2 degrees. The winter sets in from October and lasts till February and the last three months are the extreme. Heavy woolens are a pre requisite here and preferably worn in layers as icy cold conditions persist throughout the season.
Dharmaghar situates approximately 10 km away from Chaukori, Dharamghar is home to a settlement called the Himdarshan Kutir, established by the prominent discipline.
Approximately 15 km away from Chaukori, Berinag is the eastern most Himalayan district in the state of Uttarakhand. Located at an altitude of 1860 m.
A prominent Hindu religious site, the most popular attraction here would be the Shakti Peeth known as the Hat Kalika, dedicated to goddess Kali.
