Almora is one of the most picturesque hill stations of Uttarakhand, located at a height of 1,651 meters above sea level in the Kumaon Hills. Almora is situated on a 5 km long ridge which is shaped like a horse shoe. Almora is surrounded by thick green forests of Pine and Fir trees, making its natural beauty the prime attraction here. Nanda Devi Festival: Probably the oldest festival in Almora, started by the Chanda Dynasty in the 17th century. It is celebrated for five days in September at the Nanda Devi Temple, attracting many tourists.
Uttraini Festival: Celebrated annually in January, it is the biggest trade festival in Almora, bringing traders together. It is similar to the Trade Fair held in Delhi.
Jageshwar Monsoon Festival: A month-long festival from July 15 to August 15 at the Temple of Lord Jagnath. The temple was built between the 8th-9th centuries. The festival features folk dances, musical concerts, and other cultural events.
Shopping Area
Lal Bazaar, Thana and Johri are the famous shopping destinations in Almora. Tourists can also have a round of these markets and watch the craftsmen make products in their small household industries. Almora is famous for Rabbit wool clothing and products, and tourists can find plenty of options of that in the above mentioned markets. Besides this, tourists can also buy Pashmina shawls, sheep wool blankets and many more products of interest and memory.
