The Oasis in the dessert’, Mount Abu is located at around 1220 meters above sea level in Rajasthan. Mount Abu is the only hill station in the North West India and is an epitome of the contrast of British and Rajputana Royal’s marks on it. The history of Mount Abu dates back to several years ago when empires fought for their rule on this city. Till 1947, Mount Abu served as the headquarters for the residents of Rajputana. Although the Abu hills (about 330 sq.km.) were declared as a closed area in 1960, but the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary covers about 290 sq.km. of the total area. This sanctuary is home to various species of flora and fauna. There are several stories behind the description of the name of this hill station. ‘Abu’ is believed to be the son of Himalayas; however some legends also say that Mount Abu derived its name from the powerful serpent ‘Arbuada’, who saved Lord Shiva’s bull, Nandi. The best time to visit Mount Abu is during the months of February to June and September to December.
