Amboli

Nestled in rich and abundant variety of unique flora and fauna, Amboli Hill Station is one of the great tourist destinations in South Maharashtra in India. Located at an altitude of 690 mtr, it is the last hill station before the coastal highlands of Goa. Best Time to Visit

Though the best times, as per locals are from October to February, Amboli is good for the whole year. Temperatures in summers rarely exceed 40 degrees and though it rains heavily here, for outsiders it is a treat to watch. Many tourists, who have visited earlier, often recommend the rainy season for visitors as it offers beautiful vistas and unbelievable scenes all around.

Summers : Summer really starts from March and lasts till June. The period from April end to June end is really humid and unless the visitor is accustomed, it can be disturbing. The temperature fluctuates between 22 and 40 degrees but the humidity level takes the mercury a few notches higher.

Monsoons : Beginning from July, the Monsoons last till September end at Amboli. It experiences heavy to very heavy rainfall during these months. The climate does become very humid but is pleasant because of the mild temperature. The flora appears new and crisp and many wild flowers bloom filling the entire landscape with peculiar aroma.
Winters: The winter season starts early November and lasts till February end. The hill station becomes cooler and quite enjoyable during this period. There is no trace of humidity and the temperature fluctuates between 10 and 30 degrees. Light woolens are necessary during the night especially if wind blows or some rain drizzles. Overall the location is very enjoyable.

Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganesh Chaturthi, and Diwali are the two prominent festivals in Amboli that are celebrated with great fanfare and enthusiasm. Vinayak Chaturthi is one of the major festivals in Amboli that is celebrated with much enthusiasm in the month of September. The 10-day festival commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha and end on the day of ‘Ananta Chaturdashi’. Another important festival in Amboli is Diwali that is celebrated in the month of October-November and signifies the triumph of good over evil. The festival is associated with wealth and prosperity. People burst crackers, exchange sweet among friends and family and light up their homes with clay lamps.

Shopping in Amboli can be fun and exciting. An array of products can be bought from Amboli and that includes wooden toys, honey and spices. You can buy handmade wooden toys, in the shape of vehicles, and fruits among other things. These are available in the local shops. Amboli is also known for food items such as honey, Mango pulp, Kokam syrup, Aamba Poli. There are ayurvedic medicines sold in Amboli such as, Jaswand Tel and Nirgundi Tel. These are manufactured by the local “Mahila Bachat Group”.
