Dharamkot

Dharamkot is a small hill station in Kangra district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. This small village is just a few minutes’ walk further up the hill from McLeod Ganj. Located on the crest of a hill above McLeod Ganj, it is an attractive spot that offers a scenic panoramic view of the Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar ranges. There are various small and interesting eateries around Dharamkot. The hill station houses many foreigners and especially Israelis. It is set amidst tall pines and rhododendron forests, and offers a good view of the Dhauladhar range. It has the Tushita Research Centre, which is a centre for the study and practice of Buddhism in the Tibetan Mahayana tradition and runs courses in meditation. Dharamkot also has the Vipassana meditation centre and Dhamma Shikara.The ideal months to visit Dharamkot are October/November. It can be quite hot during the day (up to 25°C) at lower altitudes and at higher altitudes the temperature can drop to -1°C at night.

Though Dharamkot stands at a good height of around 7,000 feet it is still enjoyable in winters. The rainy season, at this height, brings up cloudy mist, a great atmosphere for romantic meets. The cloudy scent is just mesmerizing and lifts the spirits almost instantly.

Snow brightens your eyes and outdoors are always enjoyable. The indoor coziness also comforts many couples.

All in all, this location is very much enjoyable in all seasons.

Dharamkot experiences some of the extremely pleasant summers within the temperature range of 25 degrees. The best time to visit Dharamkot, as locals opine, is during the months of September to June. It is best to avoid July and August due to the heavy rainfall it receives.
