Chail has an interesting history dating back to the British Rule in India. Maharja Bhupider Singh was banished from the state of Shimla by Lord Kitchener, who later decided to build a kingdom of his own on a land that stands higher in altitude from altitude. On his quest, he found Chail as an option given that he already owned some ancestral property on this land. However, he faced a lot of difficulties while constructing his kingdom and realised that underneath the land a sage was buried and eventually Bhupinder Singh constructed a temple, Sidh Baba ka Mandir, on that land and built his kingdom few miles away. In 1972, the entire property of 75 acres was taken in by Himachal Tourism. In 1893, world’s highest cricket pitch and polo ground was built in Chail promoting sport tourism.
