Khandala

The cool and appealing hill station located in Maharashtra was ruled byChattrapathiShivaji, the great Maratha Warrior before falling to Peshwas. After the Peshwas, this striking hill station came under the control of imperial rule. Khandala presents Martha and Peshwa culture heritage. It has summers from April through June, while the winters are from November through February. Monsoons are between June and September. The best time to visit Khandala is during the period of October and May.

Dukes Nose : The cliff takes its name from Duke Wellington. There is a belief that the cliff showed strong resemblance to his nose. The cliff can be visitedfrom INS Shivaji.

Rajmachi Fort : The citadel of Shivaji’s Maratha Kingdom, Rajmachi Fort encompasses deep valleys on its three sides, while on the fourth side lies dense forest cover.

Karla Caves: Constructed approximately in 160 BC, these are huge ‘Chaitya Caves’ (prayer halls),provided with Viharas (monasteries) were unearthed for the Buddhist monks

Ekvira Devi Festival The special festival of Khandala is celebrated in Devi Ekvira temple by the Koli fishermen community. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Ekvira Devi during Navaratri in month of October each year. Koli dance and folk music is performed during the festival. Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Diwali are also the popular festivals in Khandala that are celebrated with rich splendor and elaboration.
