Panaji

Panaji, the capital of Goa, is a quaint city known for its laid-back vibe, Portuguese heritage, and scenic location along the banks of the Mandovi River. As one of India’s smallest state capitals, Panaji offers a unique blend of modernity and old-world charm. The city is famous for its colorful, colonial-era buildings in the Fontainhas Latin Quarter, a UNESCO Heritage zone, where cobblestone streets and vibrant houses transport visitors back in time.

Among the attractions in the city are the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, built in 1541, with its zigzagging staircase and its white facade; the promenade on the Mandovi River is an ideal place to take evening walks, which affords views and river cruises, including the sunset and casino cruises.

Panaji also has a very vibrant food scene, from Goan delicacies like prawn balchão and bebinca to Portuguese-inspired dishes served in local eateries. For art lovers, the Kala Academy hosts cultural programs showcasing Goan music, dance, and theatre.

The city provides great base ground for nearby attractions, such as Miramar Beach and Dona Paula Viewpoint. As such, Panaji is a befitting tourist destination especially to any tourist visiting Goa.
